The President of the Competition Council, Alexei Ghertescu, held a public lecture for master’s students of the State University of Moldova (USM). The theme of the lecture was dawn raids in the field of competition.

The event provided students with a practical insight into how competition authorities identify anti-competitive practices and conduct investigation procedures, collect evidence during dawn raids and ensure that the rights of persons subject to such procedural actions are respected.

During the lecture, Alexei Ghertescu explained the role of dawn raids carried out by the Competition Council, an essential tool in collecting evidence in the investigation of infringements of the Competition Law. The President of the authority highlighted the importance of transparency, fairness and compliance with procedural rules in carrying out dawn raids, presenting relevant examples from the work of the Council and other competition authorities in the European Union to students.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and actively participate in the discussion, deepening their understanding of this topic. Thus, the participants learned about the stages of initiating the dawn raids, the legal term for their conduct, various procedural aspects, but also about the sanctions for obstruction.

Alexei Ghertescu noted the importance of such events with the participation of students to promote knowledge in the field of competition. „It is necessary for future professionals to understand both the theoretical foundation and the practical applicability of the material and procedural rules in this field, which will eventually help to protect the legitimate interests of consumers, as well as to the development of a fair business environment”, mentioned Alexei Ghertescu.
