The President of the Competition Council, Alexei Ghertescu, attended the XI-th annual meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Committee in the Trade Configuration, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, on 14-15 November 2024.
The event brought together representatives of the European Commission, authorities of the Republic of Moldova and officials from the member states of the European Union, aiming to evaluate the progress made in the implementation of the Association Agreement.
During the meeting, Alexei Gherțescu delivered a detailed presentation on the implementation of the competition chapter of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, highlighting that the national authorities have made progress in aligning the legislation with European standards.
The agenda also included the analysis of state aid schemes in the Republic of Moldova. The President of the Competition Council presented the current situation regarding the state aid policies applied including in the free economic zones, underlining the continuous national effort to align them to EU standards.
„The collaboration with the European Union is essential for the development of a performing business environment in Moldova. By implementing the Association Agreement, we aim to ensure the highest possible compliance with European standards in the field of competition and state aid. This will facilitate the gradual integration of Moldova into the European internal market and improve the transparency and efficiency of the regulations”, said Alexei Ghertescu.
Note: The meetings of the Moldova-EU Association Committee in the Trade configuration are organized annually and have the role of addressing the most important progress, as well as challenges in the sectors compliant to the committee: trade of goods, trade of goods, competition, technical barriers to trade, intellectual property rights and geographical indications, trade in services, energy aspects related to trade, public procurement, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, customs cooperation, trade and sustainable development, business environment, etc.
