On 23.01.2023, the Plenum of the Competition Council ordered the initiation of an investigation into signs of abuse of a dominant position by the company operating the digital applications Yandex Go and Yandex Pro used in the provision and use of taxi services.
The investigation was initiated after preliminary examination of a complaint lodged with the Competition Council in early December 2022.
As part of the investigation, the Competition Council is to conduct a detailed analysis of the relevant markets, determine whether the enterprise concerned has a dominant position on the relevant markets to be established and whether the practices applied by the company constitute an abuse of a dominant position.
This is the first investigation in the Republic of Moldova targeting digital platforms and possible anti-competitive practices through such platforms.
