The second round of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the People s Republic of China took place between 22nd and 27th July 2018 in Beijing, the People s Republic of China. The Moldovan delegation included the representatives of the Competition Council: Mr. Emil Guțu, Vice-President, and Ms. Diana Lapteacru, Head of the Abuse of Dominant Position Department. The negotiated agreement will help to strengthen trade and economic relations between both countries, will facilitate the access of Moldovan products on the Chinese market and attract investments in the main sectors of activity of the Republic of Moldova. Simultaneously, the parties agreed to provide protection against anticompetitive practices for the entrepreneurs, in order to prevent anticompetitive cases from undermining the benefits of the free trade for economic efficiency and consumer wellbeing. In this context, during the second round of negotiations, several amendments proposed by the Moldovan side to the “Competition” section of the draft Agreement was accepted, with the intention of adjusting it to national interests and legislation. In September, current year, the third round of negotiations will take place in Chisinau.
