From October 16-18, 2024, The Competition Council of the Republic of Moldova hosted the first mission of the representatives of the EU project TWINNING „Strengthening the institutional capacities of the Competition Council for the application of competition policy and state aid in accordance with the best practices of EU”. This project is implemented by a consortium led by the Romanian Competition Council, together with the competition authorities of Lithuania and Poland.
The main purpose of this inaugural visit was to asses and identify the priority actions to be implemented in the medium term to strengthen the capacities of the competition authority. During the mission, the European experts held detailed discussions with the employees of the Competition Council of the Republic of Moldova for the elaboration of the initial activity plan, structured on three essential components: institutional development, competition policy and State aid. These components aim to modernize operational processes, ensuring alignment with EU best practices and facilitating gradual integration into the European market.
Also within this mission, a meeting was organized on October 17, 2024 with representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization. Discussions focused on key aspects of cooperation in the areas of competition and state aid, to ensure a coordinated approach to improving the internal market.
Note: The TWINNING project started on 1 October 2024 and will run for 27 months. It will support the effective implementation of competition policies and state aid, in line with the EU-Republic of Moldova Association Agreement and the relevant European acquis. In addition, the project promotes fair competition, market integrity and protection of consumer welfare in the Republic of Moldova.
