On January 31, the President of the Competition Council, Alexei Gherțescu, met with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova within the Twinning project “Strengthening the institutional capacities of the Competition Council to implement competition policy and state aid in accordance with EU best practices”.
The meeting aimed to identify the main difficulties faced by producers in relation to retail chains. Additionally, the discussions focused on outlining directions for optimizing the regulatory framework and enforcement mechanisms to ensure a fair balance in relationships between agricultural and food production suppliers and retail chains. In this context, the participants emphasized the importance of cooperation between authorities and the private sector to identify and eliminate commercial practices that may affect the proper functioning of the market.
With the support of experts from Romania, Poland, and Austria, the Competition Council is analyzing solutions adopted at the European level and exploring ways to adapt them to the specifics of the national economy. This joint effort aims not only at revising the existing legislation but also at implementing effective measures to protect economic agents from potential abuses and imbalances in commercial relationships.
The President of the Competition Council, Alexei Gherțescu, reiterated the institution’s commitment to ensuring a fair and predictable competitive environment: “A fair and balanced business environment depends on clear rules and efficient mechanisms that prevent imbalances between suppliers and large retail chains. Through open dialogue with the private sector and by leveraging European experience, we aim to strengthen the regulatory framework so that all economic actors benefit from fair conditions for negotiation and collaboration.”
