During September 25-27, 2024, in Suceava, a workshop on economic concentrations and foreign direct investments took place, an event organised under the Memorandum of Regional Cooperation (MoU) between competition authorities. This event was attended by the employees of the Competition Council of the Republic of Moldova, along with representatives of the competition authorities from Romania, Poland and Ukraine.

During the event, key issues were addressed regarding the evaluation of merger operations, the definition of relevant markets, the evaluation of commitments in the Phase II of investigation.

During the discussion panels, the head of the Economic Merger Department of the Competition Council, Lilia Oglinda, shared the experience of the authority in the investigation of economic concentrations. At the same time, the Council’s experience in the management of the cases examined in Phase II was emphasised, taking into account the complexity of the investigation processes and the decisive role of the competition authority in protecting the internal market and the legitimate interests of consumers.

The workshop was held under the presidency of the Romanian Competition Council, in accordance with the objectives set out in the Memorandum of Regional Cooperation (Mou). The event provided an excellent opportunity for the exchange of best practices, strengthening cross-border collaboration in the management of merger challenges.

The next events organized within the Memorandum will take place in the cities of Brasov (Romania), on subjects related to state aid, and in Bucharest (Romania), where topics of strategic interest will be discussed at a meeting of the heads of the competition authorities in the region.
