The President of the Competition Council, Alexei Ghertescu, participated within the Global Competition Forum, organized in Paris on December 2 and 3, 2024 by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The international event brought together representatives of more than 100 competition authorities from around the world to discuss current topics on global competition policies and legislation.

During this Forum, Alexei Ghertescu participated in discussions dedicated to the basic problems in the current global economic context, namely the role of competition policies in the eradication of poverty, functioning of food and agricultural markets, etc. The topics addressed included the major challenges faced by competition authorities in these areas, but also how competition policies can be used to solve problems that require complex approaches.

In addition to the plenary sessions, The OECD Global Competition Forum offered the opportunity to participate in a series of bilateral meetings with colleagues from other countries in order to deepen the cooperation relations between the Moldovan competition authorities, EU and other regions of the world. One of the Forum’s panels focused on the activity plan of the OECD Regional Competition Centre in Budapest, in which the Competition Council of the Republic of Moldova participates annually.

Note: The Global Competition Forum is organised annually by OECD Competition Law and Policy. This large-scale event provides an enabling framework for debate on important issues with competition authorities and other representatives from non-OECD countries. With a pro-development orientation, the forum promotes intensive debate on the relationship between competition policy and other relevant aspects of economic development.
